What size Twin Flo unit do I need?
Your local plumbing supply or plumbing contractor would be happy to provide you with a heat-loss calculation for your entire house or just the one room.
Which Twin Flo unit is the one I should use?
Based on the amount of heat in BTU that is needed, you can select from the three sizes that are available. You can also choose where to install the unit, whether under a kitchen cabinet, in a bathroom wall with the flush mounting wall kit or against the wall in a mud room with a to the floor "F" kit. You can even mount it into the floor with the floor mounting "FK" kit.
Can a Twin-Flo unit be used with a steam system?
It is not recommended. This due to the fact that the heating coils are either a continuous serpentine or multi-loop copper tube type. The basic problem is that the condensate can become trapped in a low spot and the results are noisy water hammer when the steam enters the coil and meets with the condensate.
Can your convectors be used on one pipe steam systems?
Due to the size of the copper tubing used in the construction of the
convector heating coil, condensate that builds up as the steam cools and
turns to water will come into contact with the entering steam and cause a condition called “Water Hammer”. Not only is water hammer a disturbingly loud noise, but it can cause serious damage to the coil and create leaks. It is not recommended that these convectors be used with “One Pipe Steam Systems”
Will your convectors work on gravity fed hot water system?
Yes. Make sure that the unit selected does not exceed the recommended pressure drop for a gravity system. Based on the age of gravity systems, you have to research to find the design criteria for this type of hot water heating system.
I am replacing an old cast iron radiator and I want to use one of your convectors. Will it work?
Yes, providing a couple of things. One, if the piping going to the cast iron radiator is steel, make sure that you install bi-metallic connectors on both the supply and return side of the convector. The dissimilar metals of steel piping and copper tubing with bronze headers can cause a chemical reaction and the result will be the premature erosion of the copper tubing in the convector coil. This would apply for both hot water and two pipe steam heating systems. The second item is to make sure that your current system is not a one pipe steam system. We do not recommend the use of our convectors on one-pipe steam systems.
Can I paint the sheet metal enclosure of the convector?
Yes. You should make sure that the surface of the convector cover is clean and free of any oil or grease. Wash it down with a good dish detergent and dry it. Then use a fine grit emery paper or steel wool to rub the surface lightly to give the new paint better adhesion. The paint that you use should be an enamel base paint. Apply and let dry.
What will be the surface temperature of the metal enclosure when my heating system is running?
You will need to know what the operating temperature of your boiler or hot water heater is. Look at the temperature gauge on the boiler when it is cycling. The temperature gauge will show what the water or steam temperature is leaving at. The highest surface temperature would occur nearest the boiler. If the temperature gauge reads 180°F, you would subtract the entering air temperature at the convector. The heating industry uses 65°F. This will result in a surface temperature of 115°F
Can I buy just the convector heating coil to replace an old one in my house? I don’t know if it is your convector or not.
You will have to take some measurements first. You will measure the depth of the coil, from front to back. Measure the length of the coil from end to end. Then measure the distance from the center of the connecting line, from one end to the center of the opposite connecting line. With this information, you can call your local plumbing and heating wholesaler and give them these dimensions. We can make special convector coil lengths based on the center to center piping dimension, but we need to know how deep the coil is to make sure that it will fit inside your convector. Also, specify if the piping connections are both on the bottom or if one is on the top and the other is on the bottom.
What gauges of steel do your convectors come in?
Our standard convectors are supplied with 18 gauge steel front panels and 20 gauge steel back panels or liners. The front panels are also available in 16 and 14 gauge steel, and the back panels or liners are available in 18, 16 and 14 gauge steel.
Why would a Twin-Flo turn on and off within a few seconds?
If the unit is wired with a wall thermostat, the air temp near the t`stat is at the borderline temperature. If the unit is hard wired with no t-stat, the aquastat is sensing the water temperature is at or near the minimum operating temperature.
Can the Floor Vector product be used as a primary heat source in a home?
The Floor Vector provides a specific amount of heat (BTU output) at a specific temperature of water, therefore they can and are used as the total provider of heat for any or all rooms. They are intended to provide heat to a room when there is limited space on the wall for hot water baseboard.
What causes `pinging` or `bonging` noises when the system starts up?
Most often, if there is a metallic `ping` noise, it is caused by the fins of the element coming into contact with a stationary object, like the head of a nail or screw. A `bong` noise can be caused by a large temperature difference between the air outside the Floor Vector box (towards the outside wall) and the heated air inside the box. When the sustem turns on, the hot water warms the air very quickly and the air outside the box is sometimes 120 to 140 degrees colder. This will cause the metal box to flex or expand and create a subtle `bong,` like a kettle drum.
How can noises from the Floor Vector be eliminated?
Remove the grille and inspect the fins on the element to see if they are coming into contact with any stationary object. Make sure that the copper tube is centered in the black nylon bushings that are in the end plates of the box. If the Floor Vector box is located close to an outer exposed wall, insulation can be installed in the floor joist between the box and the outside wall.
How does Twin-Pak come packaged?
Twin-Pak is packaged with all of the required components; enclosure, mounting strip, brackets, hangers, and element cradles. The element is packed separately.
What element sizes are available for Twin-Pak?
The elements that are available for Twin-Pak come in copper tube with aluminum fins or steel tube with steel fins. The copper tube sizes are 3/4", 1", and 1-1/4" nominal O.D. The steel tube comes in either 1-1/4" or 2" nominal O.D.

A BRU is a gas-fired unit heater designed specifically for use in residential garages. It is certified for use in residential, commercial and industrial applications.
How do I select the right size BRU for my garage?
Because every home is different, it is recommended that you have a qualified contractor perform a heat-loss calculation for your garage. Many variables such as the number of doors and windows, exposure, and building construction type will affect this calculation. As an estimate, the BRU 30 may be enough for a one or one and half car garage, the BRU 60 for a 2 to 2-1/2 car garage, and the BRU 60 for a 3 to 3-1/2 car garage. The BRU 75 and 90 are appropriate for very large garages and light industrial and commercial applications.
